Launched in 2023 to celebrate The Kids' Cancer Project's 30th anniversary, the Fellowships honour founder Col Reynolds OAM and his unwavering belief that investing in research is the key to improving outcomes for children with cancer.
The program was created to address one of childhood cancer research's greatest challenges: attracting, developing and retaining world-class researchers so they can continue pursuing bold ideas and life-changing discoveries.
With a commitment of $7.6 million over five years, the Col Reynolds Fellowships represent one of the largest investments in research capability in The Kids' Cancer Project's history. Across the program, 23 Fellows from 12 leading research institutions are being supported to advance innovative childhood cancer research and strengthen Australia's future research workforce.
The Col Reynolds Fellows are tackling some of childhood cancer's biggest challenges, from improving treatments for aggressive brain cancers and developing personalised medicine approaches to advancing immunotherapy, genomics, survivorship, supportive care and clinical trials.
By investing in researchers at pivotal stages of their careers, The Kids' Cancer Project is helping generate the evidence needed to secure larger competitive grants, accelerate translation from laboratory to clinic, and improve outcomes for children diagnosed with cancer. Every Fellowship represents an investment not just in an individual researcher, but in the future of childhood cancer care.

Career Development FellowshipsSupporting outstanding early and mid-career researchers to establish independent research programs and become future leaders.
Clinical Research FellowshipsEnabling clinicians to combine patient care with research, accelerating the translation of discoveries into better treatments.
PhD Top-up Scholarshipsupporting emerging researchers undertaking higher degree research in priority areas of childhood cancer.
Together, these Fellowships are helping build a sustainable pipeline of research talent while strengthening Australia's childhood cancer research ecosystem for the future.
Every Col Reynolds Fellow is selected through a highly competitive, independent peer-review process led by The Kids' Cancer Project's Research Advisory Committee (RAC).
They represent Australia's most promising researchers and clinician-scientists – united by a shared goal of improving survival and helping children thrive after their diagnosis.
