The Kids' Cancer Project’s funding strategy focuses on investing in high-impact, peer-reviewed childhood cancer research that improves survival and reduces the long-term effects of treatment, while increasingly prioritising co-funding partnerships to extend the reach and scale of investment.
It continues to support a balanced portfolio across discovery, translational, clinical and survivorship research, with a strong emphasis on funding the next generation of researchers and enabling the infrastructure and systems needed for sustained scientific progress.
Underpinned by rigorous governance and independent expert assessment, the strategy aims to accelerate the pathway from laboratory discovery to real-world clinical impact, ensuring every funded project delivers measurable outcomes for children with cancer and their families.
Guided by its 2024-29 Research Strategy, The Kids’ Cancer Project will maximise the impact of every research dollar by investing in bold, innovative research across the full childhood cancer research continuum. Through a national, agile and evidence-driven approach, we will strategically invest where the greatest unmet need exists, supporting discoveries that improve survival and quality of life for children, adolescents and young adults with cancer.
Our investment will span the research continuum, from understanding the molecular drivers of disease and identifying new therapeutic targets, through to translating discoveries into clinical trials, improving supportive care, survivorship and late effects, while also building the infrastructure and research workforce needed to accelerate future breakthroughs. Through strategic co-funding partnerships with governments, research institutions and like-minded organisations, we will leverage every dollar invested to support larger, higher-impact research initiatives.
Our strong governance framework will continue to underpin every investment. A refreshed Research Advisory Committee, robust peer-review process and enhanced impact reporting will ensure funding decisions remain independent, transparent and evidence-based, while ongoing competitive funding rounds will continue to support outstanding researchers, new ideas and Australia's future childhood cancer research workforce.
