Immunotherapy

Immunotherapy is a treatment that helps the body’s immune system fight cancer cells. Checkpoint inhibitors, immune stimulants and oncolytic virus therapy are all forms of immunotherapy.

One example of an immunotherapy-based treatment is the Chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T-cell which engineers the patient's own immune cells to fight cancer. It is often used to treat patients diagnosed with leukaemia and lymphoma.

Common side effects of immunotherapy include fatigue, skin irritability, diarrhoea, abdominal pain, dry eyes, weight and body temperature changes and joint pain.
